MOC - LEGO Technic 42167 C Model - Crane Truck with Claw
The Creation Process:
Over the span of three days and approximately 12 hours of dedicated effort, I designed and built this C Model Crane Truck with Claw. This model is the latest in my collection of C models and MOCs, which are meticulously designed and assembled it to ensure functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Key Features:
- Hand Of God (HOG) Steering: The HOG steering is a popular feature in many LEGO Technic models, allowing for easier manoeuvring and control. In the C Model Crane Truck, steering is achieved via a black knob positioned on the roof. This knob directly connects to the front wheels, enabling smooth and responsive steering. It enhances the playability of the model, making it more interactive and engaging.
- Manual Crane Rotation and Lifting: The crane is manually rotatable, providing a realistic feel to the model. This feature allows the crane to swivel and position itself accurately for various tasks. The crane's lifting function is manually operated, offering a hands-on experience. The claw, attached to the crane, auto-closes thanks to a cleverly integrated rubber band mechanism, enabling it to grasp and lift objects securely.
- Tilting Rear Tray with Tailgate: The rear tray of the truck is designed to tilt, adding another layer of functionality. This feature is ideal for simulating the unloading of cargo. Complementing the tilting tray, the tailgate can be opened. This ensures that when the tray tilts, any cargo can be easily discharged, mimicking real-life truck operations.
Aesthetic Touch:
Despite the model's complexity, only one sticker from the original set is used – the MACK sticker on the front. This small yet significant detail adds a touch of authenticity and ties the C Model back to its LEGO Technic roots.

MOC - Off Road Utility Vehicle
Introduction:
The world of LEGO Technic offers an unparalleled experience for builders looking to challenge their creativity and engineering skills. Over the past week, I embarked on an exciting journey to create a unique Off-Road Utility Vehicle designed by myself (Paul B Technic). This custom model, known as a MOC (My Own Creation), features a pull-back motor function and an opening storage area in the front. In this blog post, I’ll share my experience, the design process, and the joy of bringing this model to life.
The Concept:
The idea of building an Off-Road Utility Vehicle came from my fascination with rugged, all-terrain vehicles. These vehicles are known for their versatility, durability, and ability to tackle challenging terrains, making them a perfect inspiration for a LEGO Technic project.
The Design and Build Process:
Day 1-2: Planning and Gathering Parts
The first step in this project was to thoroughly review some real life designs. I examined these to understand the components needed. Once I had a clear picture, I gathered all the necessary LEGO Technic parts. This included the pull-back motor, which would be the core of the vehicle’s movement.
Day 3-5: Building the Chassis and Motor Integration
The next phase involved building the chassis. This is the backbone of any vehicle, and for an off-road utility vehicle, it needed to be robust and sturdy. I started with a strong frame and then integrated the pull-back motor. Ensuring the motor was correctly aligned and securely fitted was crucial for the vehicle's functionality.
Day 6: Constructing the Body and Storage Area
With the chassis complete, I moved on to constructing the body. This part was particularly enjoyable as it allowed for more creative freedom. The front storage area was a unique feature of this model. It required precision to ensure it could open and close smoothly while maintaining the rugged aesthetic of an off-road vehicle.
Day 7: Adding Details and Testing
Detailing is what brings a LEGO Technic model to life. I added headlights, a sturdy bumper, and off-road tires to enhance the vehicle’s appearance and functionality. Once the construction was complete, it was time for testing. The pull-back motor functioned perfectly, propelling the vehicle forward with impressive speed and power. The front storage area also operated seamlessly, providing additional playability.
Day 8: Final Adjustments and Photography
The last day was dedicated to making final adjustments. This included tightening any loose parts and ensuring the overall stability of the vehicle. I then set up a mini photoshoot to capture the model from various angles, highlighting its features and the effort that went into building it. This also included a short video.
Features of the Off-Road Utility Vehicle:
Pull-Back Motor Function: This feature adds a dynamic element to the vehicle, allowing it to zoom forward with just a pull-back action. It’s both fun and functional, showcasing the engineering prowess behind LEGO Technic.
Opening Storage Area: The front storage compartment is a practical addition, providing a space to store mini-tools or accessories. It opens and closes smoothly, demonstrating the attention to detail in the design.
Rugged Aesthetics: With its sturdy build, off-road tires, and detailed exterior, this vehicle is ready to tackle any terrain, at least in the imaginative world of LEGO.
Conclusion:
Designing and building this Off-Road Utility Vehicle MOC was an incredibly rewarding experience. It took approximately 12 hours of dedicated design and build time, spread over a week. Each step of the process was a blend of engineering challenges and creative solutions, resulting in a model that is both aesthetically pleasing and mechanically sound.
Whether you’re a seasoned LEGO builder or a newcomer to the world of Technic, I highly recommend taking on a project like this. It’s a fantastic way to hone your skills, explore new building techniques, and most importantly, have a lot of fun.
